Food & Hair Connection: Soy

Recently, my boyfriend and I checked out a new type of restaurant. Vegetarian/Vegan Soul Food, at Red Bamboo in New York City. Sounds a bit like an oxymoron right? But the food was actually pretty good. We ordered the fried "shrimp", barbeque hot "wings" to start us off. The fried shrimp was fantastic and the bbq wings where okay, I wouldn't order them again but they weren't terrible.

For my main course I ordered the BBQ "ribs" and my boyfriend had the Curry "chicken", I prefered his course over mine but both were pretty tasty. All the meat is made from soy and then I received an email about incorporating soy into your diet as a part of an overall healthy and well-balanced lifestyle. It makes perfect sense, especially since soy is the 'perfect protein' according to my bottle of Silk Soy milk perched front and center in my fridge.

Here is an excerpt from the email: "The little soybean packs a lot of power—it aids in eliminating free radicals, helps to build strong bones, and contains antioxidants and proteins."

How does this relate to hair care? Products packed with soy are popping up all over the place.  Keep Reading to find out more!

I don't dye my own hair, but I've been known to help Gram cover up some greys here and there so I'm always on the hunt for "better" dyes. Clairol Professional Premium Crème Demi-Permanente hair color utilizes the healing and protecting properties of soy in a gentle formula that contains no ammonia, yet provides up to 50% gray coverage. Best of all, its Deep Conditioning Soy Complex protects the internal hair structure to fortify against breakage and protect vitality. As the first soy-based demi-permanent hair color, the fortifying Clairol Professional Premium Crème Demi-Permanente will help rejuvenate hair by bringing it back to its healthy, youthful appearance while providing up to 65% more shine. And for those than need extra gray coverage but would still like to enjoy the many benefits of a soy-based hair color, there is Clairol Professional Premium Crème Permanente hair color which gives 100% gray coverage, nourishing the hair as it colors! The unique formula smoothes the cuticle to lock in hair color and deliver incredibly healthy shine.

Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Treatment is one of my favorite shine products and it also features soy. It always leaves my hair feeling soft and silky and the shine is amazing. This product also features argan oil which probably adds to the softness and shininess factor
