First Lady Fashion Schizophrenia

Does Michelle Obama have fashion schizophrenia?
God knows she can get it really right as she did with the one shouldered white gown that she wore to the inaugural ball.
But she can also get it really, really wrong.
This woman has hundreds of gowns to choose from...not to mention the benefit of bespoke from the top designers in this county, and she decides to wear this gown to a state dinner????
The color may be becoming but the fit and the fabric are terrible.

We don't know, kittens. We go back and forth on this Peter Soronen dress. In the Silhouette Sweepstakes (which she often loses) this is a winner for her. She looks tall and elegant. The color is beautiful. The problem is that it's so shinyshiny that it looks, well, a little cheap. In fact, it looks a bit like a Project Runway entry. "Designers, you must design a dress for the First Lady to wear to dinner. You have 15 dollars and 3 hours to complete it. Carry on!"As for the hair, well we go back and forth on that one too. Perhaps we need more coffee to be the opinionated bitches you all love. On the one hand, changing up her sleek bob for a little curl sounds like a good idea in theory. On the other hand, all she needs is a little dog and the sheet music to "The Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow" and she's good to go.
Sorry, but Mrs Obama needs a new stylist.

Strict, Sotto Voce or Just Plain Anti Diva Armor
Considering the Duchesse's post today on "Sotto Voce" style and her previous post on "Strict" style, I thought that I would show you what shoes I am wearing today.
Purchased at Barney's many years ago these Italian fatta a mano shoes are a little bit beat up... but they are finally worn in and comfortable. I also have matching pairs in camel and black suede.

But I will say that my environment is fraught with Divas and I don't deal well with the whole Diva thing. So I just consider these shoes as part of my "Anti-Diva Don't F**k With Me" style.
Someday we can have a further discussion on the semiotics of shoes...

Dictator Chic - Jong-Il A Fashion Icon?
Because on a slow news day you can find anything on the internet
N. Korea leader sets world fashion trend: Pyongyang
Or so says France 24 as reported by the AFP
AFP - The trademark suit sported by North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il is now in fashion worldwide thanks to his greatness, Pyongyang's official website said Wednesday.
Uriminzokkiri, quoting an article in communist party newspaper Rodong Sinmun, said the modest-looking suits have gripped people's imagination and become a global vogue.
The article quoted an unidentified French fashion expert as saying world fashion follows Kim Jong-Il's style.
"Kim Jong-Il mode which is now spreading expeditiously worldwide is something unprecedented in the world's history," the stylist was quoted as saying.

Yeah, there's nothing like an anonymous quote by an unidentified "expert" to give validity to an article

Glamour And The Power To Persuade

From author Virginia Postel on her Deep Glamour blog
Glamour, in short, is serious stuff. It can alter life plans, even change history. And as a broad psychological phenomenon, it holds intrinsic interest. While rarely addressed in C-SPAN discussions, glamour is the sort of topic to which such 18th-century titans as Adam Smith and David Hume often turned their attention. It spans culture and commerce, psychology and art.
